Micropubs follow microbreweries. Good news all round!!!

So welcome to the micro pub. Old shops, disused railway ticket offices, no legged lager, no mobile phones. Just barrels of ale and drinkers who want to sup a few pints and have a natter. NO MUSIC either.
Currently flourishing in Deal, Kent, Hartlepool (railway station), Newark, Leominster, and opening soon in Bexleyheath. The Butcher's arms in Herne, Kent apparently the best example. Have to admit to not having visited one yet, but it's on the list. My Oxfordshire local has started having piped music and getting club acts in on weekend nights. The result was that it had only eight people in on Friday to hear Zak, who could be Englebert Humperdinck's dad, perform what was little better than karaoke. Of the customers, there were three local lads snorting coke in the toilets, and five girls in their twenties sharing one bottle of wine and five pints of water. There were briefly five local regulars (including ourselves) - we took off to a proper pub. If there had been a micro pub you wouldn't have got through the door. Welcome to this brave new trend!!!

  2. Afraid it never opened as far as I know. Unfortunate but last I heard they ran out of money...
