Bumped into James Clarke, MD of Hook Norton brewery yesterday, and discussed putting together a special ale for son's wedding in April. Done this in the past for special occasion and it usually consisted of having a few tasters at the brewery with James and then deciding on a blend from existing standards and seasonals to create something 'just a bit' different. But now James is taking it further: Hooky are installing a separate micro-brewing plant, where by end of the summer (sadly too late for our event) prospective grooms (and brides) will be able to come and get down and dirty (hmmm, maybe not best expression) and brew their own nuptial ale!!! In fact, not just wedding couples, anyone wanting a special occasion brew ought to be able to come in and work with the brewers deciding on what style of ale they want.
As I said, not going to be up and running in time for April, but we are doing the next best thing: taking one of the more conventional regular brews and doing our own dry hopping to give something a little individual to the taste. Challenger or Goldings? Or maybe Fuggles or Cascade? And then our own pump clip design. Maybe not quite made in heaven, but on the right road!
